Small to Medium Businesses Expand Customer Loyalty With Their WiFi

It’s a fact — the global value of Wi-Fi is exploding. According to a report commissioned by the W-Fi Alliance, it was a $1.96 trillion market in 2018. And by 2023, that number will hit $3.47 trillion! In the United States alone, Wi-Fi contributes more than $222 billion in economic value.

By 2022, Cisco estimates that 51% of all Internet traffic will be from Wi-Fi — up 43% from 2017. In fact, the growth of free Wi-Fi is exploding for small to medium businesses. 50% of the small businesses surveyed said that customers spent more money when Free WiFi was available. And almost 62% of businesses that provide free WiFi claim that their customers stay longer and spend more money. 

Wi-Fi used to be a luxury — not anymore. Today, it has become a necessity and somewhat of a consumer expectation, and therefore, a competitive differentiator. Seventy-three percent of Americans say it is very important to always have access to Wi-Fi in their daily lives.

A vast majority of smartphone and tablet owners are using mobile data and are looking for ways to reduce their data usage and find better data speeds with a reliable WiFi connection. According to Telecom Paper, one in 10 people admitted to leaving a venue because there was no free Wi-Fi access.

There’s no question that Wi-Fi is extremely influential. 48% of consumers say they are more likely to shop at a store that gives them access to free Wi-Fi. This shows that Wi-Fi has been a proven utility for local businesses. According to CMO Council, 56% of social network users have stated they would use their social profiles to login in return for a customized experience with a brand. This shows that you can grow your social media followers by offering free Wi-Fi.
